This week’s tip is the use of Wonder Tape for installing zippers.
I use this all the time, so I thought I would share! This double sided tape can be easily sewn through without gumming up the needle. Wonder Tape will wash away, completely dissolving. This makes it a great alternative to pinning!
Although I use this for installing zippers, it can be used for a lot more! Try using this with laminated cotton and oil cloth.
No more pins! Yay! Wonder Tape makes sewing a zipper easy! Conquer your fear of zippers with Wonder Tape!
Installing a Zipper with Wonder Tape:
This tutorial is from the Avila Bag Free Pattern.
On the right side of the zipper place a strip of Wonder Tape the length of the zipper close to one edge.
Peel off the top side of the tape and center the zipper along the top edge of one main panel. Be sure that right sides are together.
Place another strip of Wonder tape on the top side of the zipper back.
Peel the top side of the tape off. Place one lining panel right side down matching the top of the lining panel with the top edge of the zipper back. This will create a sandwich with the zipper between the main and the lining panels.
Stitch ⅛” from the coils of the zipper along the top edge of the panels.
Press the lining and main panels away from the zipper. Place the lining and main panels wrong sides together.
Carefully topstitch across the top of the panels starting and stopping ½” from each edge.
Repeat steps 1-7 with other main and lining panels to sew onto the opposite side of the zipper.
